Ralph:it is very difficult to locate a planetary nebula.
For example, an NP at 4000 L.Y will be as bright as another at 8000 L.Y but 2x brighter.
The researchers really have trouble locating them, only the closest ones (really very big) with the paralax method have precise measures.
